Organic cocoa from RD

Cocoa grows mainly in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte, Hato Mayor and the northeast. Beans, cocoa paste, butter and chocolate ship mostly to Europe and the United States.

How cocoa is shipped

  • Ocean freight in 20' or 40' containers, usually in jute or bulk bags; LCL for smaller lots.
  • Dry, clean, well-ventilated containers to protect against moisture and mold.
  • Fumigation when the buyer or destination requires it.

What you need

Phytosanitary certificate from the Ministerio de Agricultura, organic certificate if sold as organic, commercial invoice, packing list, export declaration (DUA), bill of lading, certificate of origin, fumigation certificate if required. For the U.S., FDA food facility registration and prior notice. For the EU, check the buyer’s traceability and deforestation-free requirements.

How Puente Freight helps

We book containers and LCL space for cocoa from Río Haina and Caucedo, arrange inspections and documents, and keep your cargo moving to the U.S., Europe and beyond.
